FAQ

Questions worth asking.

Clear answers about what ZeroAge checks, what it shares, and where the product is today.

What does the service checking my age learn?

It receives a yes, no, or unsure answer for the agreed age threshold, plus its own transaction reference. It does not receive your date of birth, document number, passport photo, or any other sensitive information.

What does “unsure” mean?

ZeroAge returns unsure when it cannot give a reliable age answer. Causes can include unsupported or invalid evidence, known revocation, ambiguous dates, or an abuse block. An unsure result must not be interpreted as underage.

What is an electronic document?

ZeroAge works specifically with Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs). These electronic documents include passports, national IDs, and electronic visas.

Which documents work?

ZeroAge currently works with passports, more specifically TD3 documents. We are working on expanding supported documents.

Why do I need to enter my document number, date of birth, and expiry date?

Your phone uses these details to establish an NFC connection with the document. This data is not sent to the service checking your age or ZeroAge's servers. If your document supports a six-digit Card Access Number (CAN), you can enter that instead.

Does ZeroAge verify the user is the owner of the document?

No. The check establishes an age claim from authenticated document data. It does not establish that the phone user is the rightful document holder. We are working on adding biometric verification to the proof.

What does ZeroAge retain?

The service retains signed security and proof evidence needed to reproduce and reZeroAge also learns the user's nationality, but this data is never shared with customers.assess a decision. It may use a stable internal document link to detect excessive proof requests from the same document and invalidate affected results. Customers do not receive that internal link. The only sensitive information ZeroAge learns is the user's nationality, but this data is never shared with customers.

Is the app publicly available?

The app is available to customer teams for internal testing. General availability is planned soon. Contact us to discuss a test.

Can an old result change?

Yes. A result can be reassessed if later revocation or abuse information makes it unreliable. ZeroAge keeps the original decision history and can notify affected customers.
